It is with sad regret that Morelli Group announce the death of Colin Laybourn who had been a director and shareholder of the company for more than 45 years. Colin lost his battle with cancer and died peacefully at a hospice near to his home in Hertfordshire 3rd June.
Colin was 75 years of age and was retired from everyday work but still kept an active interest in company affairs. He will be remembered by many as the Group Sales Director of Morelli until the late 1980’s and his wealth of experience in the trade was well known and respected by all his peers. Colin was a leading member of the Rolls Royce Enthusiasts Club and a ‘mine of information’ to all his fellow members and friends on both sides of the Atlantic. Nobody knew more about a vintage Rolls Royce than Colin!
Recently, Ruth Moring-Beale’s son, Saul, decided to run the Leeds Half Marathon for his uncle Colin. As a result of the fantastic donations many of you made, he has raised an outstanding £5,380 so far for the Royal Free Hospital Charity Fund 35, Colin’s nominated charity. Colin was delighted with Saul’s efforts and very proud that he completed the run in one piece with no obvious side effects. When Saul made his decision to run, we had no idea that we would be saying farewell to Colin so soon as at that time, his prognosis was to survive for 4-6 months. Sadly, the disease was more brutal than anyone realised. The family have therefore decided to keep Saul’s Just giving page open as a memorial fund as Colin stipulated his preference for donations to the Royal Free Hospital Charity instead of funeral flowers, so we will continue with this method to accept such donations.
Colin leaves behind his wife Joan, daughters Michele and Jane and his son James as well as his five grandchildren. Many thanks once again for your fantastic support at such a very sad time.
